Tell me I'm clever, Tell me I'm kind, Tell me I'm talented, Tell me I'm cute, Tell me I'm sensitive, Graceful and wise, Tell me I'm perfect - But tell me the truth. ~ Shell Silverstein

A Little About Me

I was raised right here in Albion and attended Albion Elementary, where I had fantastic teachers that inspired me, loved me, and encouraged me. I graduated from Lawrence High School and eventually earned my teaching degree from The University of Maine at Presque Isle.  I am married to a wonderful man, Tron and have a dino-loving son, Kaleb. (Who happens to be in my class this year.)

(
Prior to teaching 3rd grade, I worked in MSAD #49 as a tech II in the district’s Special Education program where job's focus was in Albion's Special Education classroom teaching the EnVisions program to K-6th graders.)

                                                  What we Learn

Reading

During reading, the class will work on all aspects of reading including reading strategies, vocabulary, and comprehension.  Daily, your child will read independently as well as with a buddy. Every day is either a new focus, or I am re-enforcing past learning as I guide them through a shared read. As the year progresses the children will often be in reading groups and respond to their reading in a Reader’s Notebook. Writing

We will be using the Lucy Calkins writing program, focusing on three genres in writing:  narrative, informational, and opinion. Our class will be writing Fairy tales with a twist, creating Informational papers about their favorite Maine animal, writing about small moments in their lives and writing to support their opinions. Math

With the EnVision math program, we will work on numeration, number sense with addition and subtraction, place value, multiplication, division, fractions, 2-D shapes, time, perimeter, area, liquid volume and mass, and data.

Word Study (spelling)

We will be studying high frequency words from the third grade word list, as well as vocabulary from our curriculum.

Social Studies

This year for social studies we will work to strengthen our mapping skills, by studying the State of Maine in depth. We will take field trips to the Maine State Museum and to The Margaret Chase Smith Library. We will study State and National Government as well as learn about our local important Maine people such as Elijah Parish Lovejoy, Mickey Marden, and Cindy Blodgett. We will also study economics and Milton Hershey’s role as an entrepreneur.   Science

This year we are adopting a new science curriculum. We will dive into the world of animals and their life cycles as well as their habitats here in Maine as well as on different continents. We will also learn how the weather affects the environment and the planet and how interesting magnets can be. I am thankful to be working for MSAD #49 with an amazing group of teachers! Albion Elementary is my second home and I am loving every minute of it!!!
